Having a baby is not for the faint of heart. It’s life-changing, joyful, fulfilling, and wonderful—but also terrifying, stressful, sometimes lonely, and often boring.
This book is your companion through it all, guiding you from early pregnancy to the precious weeks after your baby is born. It reminds you to set realistic expectations and, most importantly, to be compassionate with yourself as a new parent. These are the things your baby would tell you—if they could.

Nyree's career started following General Nurse training and working as a Neonatal Nurse in a London Hospital. An interest in Midwifery led to further training and the start of a strong passion for her work. Although Nyree enjoyed her NHS career she wanted to focus more on the individual needs of women and their families. Because of this strong desire to provide more individualised, personal care she started in Independent practice. Sage Femme was born!
Nyree's nurturing manner and midwifery experience are the perfect combination for delivering truly woman-centred care.
She has given birth to five beautiful babies and experienced both good and bad maternity care. She uses these experiences as motivation to improve the care of her clients and to remember how vulnerable women can feel if their care is not holistic and compassionate.
Nyree has worked hard to ensure that clients have felt nurtured and listened to and the focus has been on enhancing experiences of maternity care so that they are positive even when birth plans have needed to change for clinical reasons. The start of any baby joining a family should be a wonderful, unique time in someones life and memorable for all the right reasons.
Nyree founded SF in 2006 following 11 years in the NHS. Nyree trained as a Hypnobirthing instructor and has taught antenatal classes in North London. She currently works in 360 Med in Muswell Hill offering on site midwifery appointments.

Jenny is a registered Midwife and maternity care provider based in North London, England—with both professional and personal experience in the field. She's passionate about providing a safe and welcoming place for people to receive professional, compassionate care. She provides antenatal care, postnatal care, breastfeeding support and guidance on navigating the world of baby equipment. She is committed to providing the best and highest quality experience possible. She believes that every client should be listened to, respected and supported, and she strives to ensure that her clients have the best experience possible throughout their pregnancy journey and beyond.
Having given birth to six babies of her own, Jenny has had a mixed bag of experiences with each pregnancy. These varying experiences have added to her understanding of the care needed to help empower families with their pregnancy journey and beyond. Whilst caring for her children, Jenny set up and ran two community toddler groups, one of which was for babies and preschool children with additional needs. She invited guest speakers and healthcare professionals to attend so that parents were fully supported during morning sessions. This led her to think about making her knowledge and drive for empowering women and how she could extend this passion into something official so she applied for a Midwifery degree. She trained at North Middlesex University Hospital and came out with a first-class honours degree and a wealth of experience. Despite loving her time working in the NHS, she soon realised that she couldn’t provide the level of care she wanted to and this led to her exploring the independent Midwifery route and now being in a position to provide a dedicated level of care to you.
Jenny collaborates with pregnancy experts from nutritionists, yoga instructors to nursery designers, ensuring your experience is the best it can be.

I’m Kit and I thought it might be nice to know a little bit about me.
Before stepping into life as a full-spectrum Doula, Hypnobirthing Instructor and Birth Preparation Coach, I spent over 30 years as a Piano Teacher, Musician, Department Head and Adjudicator. I have had the privilege of working with and guiding hundreds of incredible families. Music to me, has always been about far more than simply playing the right notes, in the right order. It’s about practice, confidence, rhythm, trust, preparation and learning how to feel comfortable and secure in the moment.
Birth - and the journey before and after - like music, has its own rhythm. There is no single “perfect performance” or path, only what feels right for you. Just as musicians learn techniques to steady their breathing, calm their nerves and build confidence, full ante-natal knowledge and hypnobirthing offers practical tools to help you feel more relaxed, more informed, and more in tune with your body.
Alongside my teaching work, I have volunteered for many years as a Samaritan. As well as being on call for crisis support I also help train prisoners to be on-wing Samaritan listeners and am active in outreach work across London.
Having been part of the Bereavement Support Team at my local Children’s Hospice, I have a deep understanding of how important it is to feel heard, supported and never judged, especially during life’s most meaningful and vulnerable moments. Creating a compassionate and safe space is at the heart of everything I do.
In my life as a Mama - who had such positive pregnancies and birth experiences - I am driven to help take the fear out of birthing and help explore what a beautiful experience it can be. I ridiculously adore my two babies - a son and daughter now in their twenties - who are both such beautiful and kind humans.
I’m also a very lucky wifey of over 23 years to an utterly amazing and supportive man who lets me get on with all my bonkers-ness.
